  6. To love means to open ourselves to the negative as well as the positive - to grief, sorrow, and disappointment as well as to joy, fulfillment, and an intensity of consciousness we did not know was possible before.

Sometimes, Life throws at you a myriad of responsibilities, demands, and standards.

Before getting overwhelmed, I recall a simple principle that my mother used to teach me as a child.

When your plate is filled with food, make sure you only put bite size pieces onto your fork. Only chew as much as you can put in your mouth. And chew well. Afterwards, take another piece.

    Eventually, you’ll finish the meal.

You can never swallow more than you can handle.

    Take bite size pieces.

  8. “To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.” -C.S. Lewis
